Thomas Saueressig, SAP SE, speaks at Unternehmertag about Digital Sovereignty

SAP invests an additional €20 billion in digital sovereignty

Digital sovereignty is no longer a concept of the future, but rather a question of strategic capacity to act. Hardly anyone sums this up more succinctly than Thomas Saueressig, Executive Board Member for Customer Services & Delivery at SAP SE.

‘Digital sovereignty was an important topic in Davos, precisely because of the geopolitical uncertainty,’ says Thomas Saueressig in a recent interview with Handelsblatt. ‘In September, we announced that we would be investing an additional 20 billion euros in digital sovereignty, and we feel vindicated by recent developments.
This is not hype; it is here to stay,’ the SAP Cloud Executive Board member continues. There is massive demand from companies for independent cloud solutions, according to Saueressig: ‘The current developments will not simply reverse themselves in a few years. The cultural environment and mindset we are currently dealing with are placing a lasting strain on trust between important economic and political partners. This is an issue that will occupy several generations, even if the situation improves again at some point. We have to work with this reality.’

Thomas Saueressig will talk about why Europe needs to make bold decisions now and what responsibility large tech companies have in this regard at the Unternehmertag at Lake Tegernsee on 19 March. We look forward to hearing his insights!
