Dr. Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann

Member of the European Parliament, Chair of the Committee on Security and Defence

Dr. Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann was born (*1958) and raised in Düsseldorf. After graduating from high school, she studied journalism, politics, as well as German language and literature at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, where she also gained her doctorate in 1986. She then worked as a publishing representative in sales for the youth book publisher Tessloff for over 20 years.

She joined the FDP in 1990. She was active in local politics in her hometown of Düsseldorf for 24 years – first as a district representative, then as a city councilor, and as the city’s First Mayor in 2008-2014. Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann was Deputy Federal Chairwoman of the FDP between 2013 to 2019.

She has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2017. From 2017 – 2021, she was the spokesperson for local politics and defense policy for the FDP parliamentary group. She has been a member of the FDP Federal Executive Board since 2019 and a member of the party’s Federal Executive Committee since 2023. She is Chairwoman of the Defense Committee since 2021.

Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann is married and has three grown-up children.
