Jörg Armbruster was born in Tübingen, Germany, in 1947. After his social science, economy, politics, theatre- and linguistics studies in Cologne he started his journalistic career at the Hörfunk des Westdeutschen Rundfunks (WDR), later being active as radio reporter and moderator at the Süddeutsche Rundfunk (SDR) in Heidelberg and afterwards switched to the then-called TV station of the SDR in Mannheim. Among others, he reported from the gulf war and elections in South Africa as editor and travel correspondent in the foreign editor’s office. Between 1999 and 2005 Jörg Armbruster became foreign correspondent and studio manager in Kairo for the first time. The next 5 years he managed the foreign/European department at the SWR and was member of the moderator´s team of the ARD-show “Weltspiegel”. Since August 2010, Jörg Armbruster was again studio manager in Kairo and experienced the upheavals as part of the Arabian spring. Among others, he reported live about the resignation of Mubarak on the 11th January 2011. In the year 2012, Jörg Armbruster retired. On the 29th of March 2013 he was shot and heavily injured in Syria while being on a reportage-trip. After many operations, his health improved and he plans his return into the journalistic daily life.
