Dr. Ulrich Schumacher studied electrical engineering at the RWTH Aachen, where he was subsequently awarded a PhD. Later, he completed a business administration graduate.

In 1986 he joined the Siemens Group, became president and CEO of the semiconductor group in 1996 and moved to the Siemens Managing Board in 1998. In 1999, Dr. Schumacher led the spin-off of the Siemens Semiconductor Group and successfully brought it public in 2000 as Infineon Technologies with a market cap of about 40 billion €. In 2005, he became a partner of the technology investment firm Francisco Partners, creating and realizing several investment opportunities including the multibillion Intel/STM/FP merger Numonyx. From 2004 on he became member of the Boards of Deutsche Bundesbahn, the Swiss software company Esmertec, the Israel based semiconductor company Siano and the Dutch Semiconductor equipment company ASMi. In 2007 Dr. Schumacher joined the Chinese semiconductor manufacturer Grace Semiconductor as CEO, president and director of the board, turning the company into profitability within 2 years. Since 2011 Dr. Schumacher is active as a private investor in the technology and real estate sector.
