Armin Laschet

Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia

Armin Laschet was sworn in as Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia on June 27, 2017. Before assuming this office, he held a number of political positions, such as Member of the German Parliament (1994-1998) and Member of the European Parliament (1999-2005). Between 2005 and 2010 he was Minister for Generations, Family, Women and Integration of North Rhine-Westphalia and additionally was appointed Minister for Federal and European Affairs as well as Media of North Rhine- Westphalia in 2010. Between 2013 and 2017 he was Leader of the CDU Group in the Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia. He is also the Chairman of the CDU in North Rhine-Westphalia and Vice Chairman of the German CDU. Since January 2019 he is Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany for Cultural Affairs under the Treaty on Franco-German Cooperation.
